While doing research on the Pokemon hype cycle from 1998-2002, I found this incredible collection of articles from Billboard magazine discussing the success of the Pokemon soundtracks and video. They included some behind-the-scenes looks at how the soundtracks were conceptualized and the marketing approach they took to making the movie releases not just a date, but an event. I haven't seen these mentioned anywhere else, so I transcribed and organized the Billboard articles for your reading pleasure, with some light commentary.

Wanted to add a page for one of my favorite Pokemon lines - Magnemite and Magneton! Check it out. These Pokemon have been around for so long that there are some interesting changes in their design. I expect to update this page in the future with more information in the future.

After four years, I have beat Pokemon Sword! I've updated my Pokemon teams to include the team that beat me the game.

Extra, extra: Yeah, I kept on updating. Excited to announce I have two new affiliates: Buried Relic and Pamtre Berry! Both have highly unique content to them - Buried Relic has a lot of tools + guides for the Orre games, and Pamtre Berry has eclectic games recreating functionality from the games. Check 'em out!

Wrote a new essay! This one's a bit more meta, about Pokemon, Individuality, and Sociality. Sounds abstract, but I hope you'll give it a read - it's about the ways in which the games both celebrate individualism and encourage community.

I've decided to move the old mail page out as I work on updating it. In its place, I've added a Johto Mail Generator, so you can make mail in the style of the Gen 2 games. The side menu has been udpated to include an 'interactive' place, where the fashion game has also been moved to. I've also cleaned up multiple pages for typos and broken image links. Pokemon Stadium 2 has been updated to include some more information on how the boxes work.

Two big updates! I've completely reformated my Pokemon teams to include images and descriptions/memories of my teams. In a similar vein, I've also added my legendaries! You can see what legendaries I have up to gen 6. I have memories of many events from Gen VI and before.

If you are a strict Pokemon or Sonic fan and you don't want to see that content on the side menu, rejoice! I added a new feature that allows you to select which 'mode' you want. On the bottom right, you should see a pill that says 'settings.' Click on it, and you can select which content you want to see. Your choice is saved to cookies and will persist across visits. Of course, it is particular to the browser you are using, so you will need to set it on your phone and desktop.

I hope to have future options appear on the pill - a long term dream is to have a little style switcher. Let me know how it works across browsers.

In an essayistic mood, apparently. Ever thought it was weird you can set off on a Pokemon journey at age 11? I explore the concept at Pokemon and Adolescence.

Wrote a funny little essay: How Do Pokemon Learn Language?. Taking concepts in the Pokemon world to their logical extremes.

Finally added a page where you can contact me. Also fixed some typos.

Updated the Sonic Heroes special stages to include Team Dark. Team Rose is next, but it will take a while. Playing through this game over and over again to find all the keys is a little tedious at times. ;)

Two new partial pages! For Pokemon fans, I'm replaying Pokemon Platinum, and collecting my Notes here. Not a walkthrough, not a running commentary, but something in between the two?

For Sonic fans, I am working on a guide to make it easier to get to the Special Stages in Sonic Heroes, since it is needed to get to the final story. I've gotten it done for Team Sonic, though I know I am missing some keys. I'm working on Team Dark next.

Added two new pages I had written but forgotten to link. We have Pokemon Stadium 2 and one on Mail, a forgotten feature in the games.

New affiliate! Happy to say I am affiliated with Blue Moon Falls, one of the websites that inspired me to make this site in the first place. An incredible website about the Gen 2 games, please check them out!

Added a section with my Pokemon teams from various games. Have fun seeing how many times I used legendary Pokemon in the early games. :)

Added a section on the Sonic Tamagotchi, Sonictchi, and how to get it. I'm still working on it myself, but it helps to have this flowchart.

I'm very excited to share this - the world's first and only official Pokemon fashion collab dressup game! Make an outfit using nothing but official Pokemon-branded fashion items. Feel free to share your creations and link to Greenfield City.

Also added a review of Sonic Dream Team. I still need to get screenshots by getting it on my iPad, but that's a work in progress.

Updated Behind the Music for Pokemon, adding New Bark Town and Violet City and how they use chiptune techniques to get the most out of the Gameboy Color's sound chip. I also expanded a little on Ruins of Alph/Union Cave.

For the curious, I've added a section on my Chao in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. It is also, admittedly, for my own benefit since I like to raise multiple Chao at once and I often forget what my intention is for each Chao.

Updated Behind the Music for Pokemon. Added a section on National Park and expanded the analysis for Ruins of Alph/Union Cave. Check it out!

Updated the Pokemon Adventures in Hacking. Now features handy guides on getting infinite TMs, biking indoors, and stopping that old lady from talking to you too much.

February 25, 2025

Pokemon fans! I have changed the layout to group together the music-related content. I added a page on the games' soundtracks. This is and always will be a work in progress as I trudge through the games' music and discuss interesting music theory aspects of it.

Sonic fans! I have added a page collecting information on references to the 'A-Life system'. You may recognize this from the Chao, but it actually dates back to NiGHTS and also appears in Phantasy Star Online. I've collected relevant interviews and credits on what little we know about this concept and naming.

Overhauled the layout! You won't notice if you are on desktop, but mobile users will finally get something that works for their screen size. Besides that, we've got some Pokemon-music themed pages. I cover both the 2.B.A Master album and the interpretation of one of the songs off it, Viridian City. I also updated the Pokemon Fashion section.

February 21, 2025

Added some organization to the Sonic section - the Chao stuff is now separate from the rest of the game stuff! Added an About section to explain the purpose and history of this site and its webmaster. Added a Chao Recipes page to create some fun new Chao, as well as a page for Lazy Chao Gardening - gettings rings, animals, and stats quickly. Added a page about Pokemon Adventures in Hacking. Finally, modified the style a little to make the menus take up less space and, most importantly, you can collapse them when you click on the headers. Don't expect me to keep up this level of content, though! ;)

February 20, 2025

Added the Johto City Review and made minor changes to the layout. Peep the links!

February 17, 2025

Added images to SA2B Animal Hunt. Added section on Sonic Heroes for PC in Troubleshooting.

February 14, 2025

Soft-launch of the site. Layout mostly complete. Beginning content complete.
