My Legendaries
I have collected a fair amount of Legendary and Mythical Pokemon throughout the years! I once aimed to get all of them, but missed out on a few event Pokemon... oh well. Here you can see my collection of legendary Pokemon, as well as which ones I'm missing.
Generation I
Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres
I first caught these guys in Yellow, where I used Moltres and Articuno to beat the League. Then I transferred them from LeafGreen all the way to Pokemon Y, where they are just relaxing in a box. I appear to have caught another Zapdos in Pokemon Y?

Facing off against Mewtwo in Yellow was a high octane experience. Getting this guy down to a sliver of red and then tossing Ultra Balls at him... but apparently getting that slice of HP down was unnecessary.

A friend of mine lent me his copy of Pokemon Blue and never came back to pick it up before moving away for good. I had already lost the conditions for the Mew glitch on Yellow, so I tried it out on Blue. I knew it worked because everyone said it would, and yet I felt my heart pound as I saw Mew appear on screen. The Mew from Pokemon Y was received in an event, but I don't remember much about it. It goes to show the difference between having something gifted to you and doing something a little off-menu to get what you want...

I caught a Suicune in my very first copy of Pokemon Crystal using a Master Ball. I felt a sense of anticipation walking through the tower, that path up to where Suicune lived, and I faced off against it... I went straight to the menu and tossed my Master Ball at it. It worked - of course it did. I told my friend about it and he told me it was a silly thing to do, and I should have saved it for a difficult Pokemon like one of the wandering beasts. I nearly cried hearing that! I don't have that save anymore, and Suicune doesn't appear in my saved Pokemon on Pokemon Stadium 2. Master Ball Suicune is nothing but a memory.
The Shiny Beasts are from a Gamestop event. Fun, huh? I certainly wouldn't be bothered to try for Shiny Beasts in the game.

I'm pretty sure I never got Ho-oh in my original copy of Pokemon Crystal because you needed to get all three Beasts. And I did not do that! There is a chance I got Lugia, which has more lenient requirements, but I cannot remember well. In HeartGold, both legendaries are pretty accessible.

Celebi
Celebi was a real fixation for me as a kid. Mew could be gotten through the Mew Glitch, and I had the Jirachi disk, but there wasn't a legitimate way for an American to get Celebi for a while. My friend had a Gameshark and sharked me a Celebi. I had a chance afterwards to get a real Celebi at the "Pokemon Across America" event for the tenth anniversary of Pokemon. This Pokemon is very precious to me in a lot of ways, so precious that I didn't move it forward like I did many other of my Pokemon. I moved forward my Rayquaza and other legendaries, but that Celebi has lived on that Emerald file since.
I since got two more event Celebis. Funny that a Pokemon that once seemed so rare and unobtained is now overrepresented in my collection.

The mysterious ways in which you get these Pokemon captivated me a kid. The Braille, the Relicanth, the Wailord, the surfing currents! And their faceless inorganic forms! I like all of them, but Regice might be my favorite. I probably wouldn't have the patience to go through it all today, but I'm happy I had that experience back then. Perched over my Ruby/Sapphire guide, making sure I was surfing the current currents... hunting for Relicanth... sharing the secrets with my friend... these form many of my happy summer memories.

While I did try to hunt the legendary Beasts and the emotion/willpower/knowledge spirits of D/P/Pl, I don't recall hunting for the Latis. I'm still pretty fond of them and their portrayal in the movies.

Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza
Here's a random memory for you - a classmate of mine insisted that "Kyogre" was pronounced "KEE-oh-grey." I, of course, insisted on "kai-OH-ger." Kyogre and Groudon are story creatures, and so not very memorable to me, but Rayquaza... that mach bike section killed me. And Rayquaza was pretty high-leveled, so you had to come prepared to capture it. I was quite proud to finally capture it.

I have two of the Pokemon Colosseum Bonus Disks. I don't know why. It doesn't work twice. And it doesn't work on Emerald! I had Ruby and Sapphire so you may wonder why I don't have two Jirachi, and that's a good question. Perhaps I generated one for a friend which I've since traded away. In any case, I have Jirachi here.

Deoxys
Deoxys is another memorable Pokemon for me, an inaccessible mystery on the level of Celebi. I knew from Serebii that there was an event that could get it for you, but it was not available in America. I turned to hacking. I'm pretty sure the first Pokemon my friend hacked for me was this Deoxys, which had a weird OT. I'm not sure how he fixed the OT later on Celebii.... in any case, this Deoxys was able to hop from gen 3 to 4 to 5, but no further. I was able to get a Deoxys through a special event in Gen VI, so perhaps it all worked out.

I wanted to get the Pokemon Ranger game when I was younger to get the Manaphy egg. I've been told nowadays a lot of the Pokemon Ranger games have had their Manaphy eggs claimed and so there is no point in buying them - you would need an external tool to erase the flag. I seem to have gotten this Manaphy through some sort of event, and I'm happy I got to get one - but I wish I could have tried for the Pokemon Ranger one as well!

What memories of this one - I went to an event in real life to get this event to capture Darkrai. I had saved before starting the event so I could experience it over and over again. It involved having a nightmare in a hotel. I played the scene over many times and even wrote it down to report for a very old website of mine. I couldn't bear to capture Darkrai for a while, as it would end the scene. But eventually I went through with it, figuring that I got the event for a reason.

I missed Shaymin when the event came out and I regretted it so much! A friend of mine got it and I wanted to trade with him so I would at least have it in my Pokedex. I loved the floral theme surrounding Shaymin and both its hedgehog and adventure dog forms. The event eventually made it accessible to me.

Remember how I told you I missed the Genesect event? I missed these two, and it really brought me down. It shouldn't have, being unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but I really wanted to get them all, you know? And I still am missing these! Missing three made me stop my journey. It was a little silly, but it was an important goal to me at the time.

I find it funny that I have Pokemon Y and so have Yveltal, and yet I have two shiny Xerneas because I had two gen VI games. And I have four Zygarde... who needs four of them? I began my first job around this time and I had less time to game. At the same time, I didn't feel motivated to complete the Tapu gang. They didn't really call me to me aesthetically. I'm not sure if I'll go back to get them some day - perhaps? I do like the team I had set up with Pokemon Moon.

Altar of the moone

There were just so many here that I kind of felt overwhelmed. It's not as bad as Unova but seeing a long list of legendaries and mythicals gives me a touch of anxiety.
I will say that I experienced the Pokemon Go event with Meltan and it was very fun! I didn't actually catch it - it was the one where "Meltan" was revealed to be Ditto - but it was great fun roaming around catching these fake Meltan. Unfortunately I didn't catch enough Ditto to progress to the next stage of the research project. 'Tis a real shame because I love Meltan!
